This year, the European Commission’s Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE) will be hosted by the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia). The conference is supported by the Directorate-General Research & Innovation, Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation Programme and is related to the 2017 Slovak EU Presidency.

From wearable robots to black holes: get to know the 25 COST networks that kicked off this spring

Throughout March and April, we hosted over 600 researchers and specialists from all over the continent, involved in 25 new networks. The 25 kick-offs were a chance for them to meet and set out their networks’ goals and priorities. The Actions will receive an estimated EUR 13 million for the usual timeframe of 4 years, helping them put their research networking activities into practice.

Conference grants: a new COST networking tool

Since COST's priority is enhancing research collaboration where ideas and people can grow without borders, we have added conference grants to our networking tools’ list. Conference grants help PhD students and early-career investigators from participating Inclusiveness Target Countries attend international science and technology related conferences that are not specifically organised by a COST Action.

Prof. Dr Sierd A.P.L. Cloetingh appointed President of the COST Association

The COST governing board – the Committee of Senior Officials (CSO) – has appointed Utrecht University Prof. Dr Sierd A.P.L. Cloetingh as the new President of the COST Association for the next two years. His mandate is officially due to start on 21 June 2017, as he succeeds the outgoing President, Dr Ángeles Rodríguez Peña. The decision was announced at the 25-26 April CSO meeting in The Hague.

Major scientific publishers team up with a COST Action to share data and improve peer review

Together with researchers in COST Action New Frontiers of Peer Review - PEERE, Elsevier, Springer Nature and Wiley have agreed on a protocol that enables peer review data sharing in a journal sample. This collaboration is meant to improve the quality, efficiency and sustainability of scholarly peer review.
