Sustainable ageing is a major policy challenge

Current policies overlook the diversity of ageing populations, which can increase social exclusion in later life. This was the message presented in Brussels on the 20th February at the Sustainable Ageing European policy seminar, ‘Older People and European Public Policy Beyond 2020,’ organised by COST Action ROSEnet.

This has been the question on social media over the last week and for good reason, the 11 February was the International day for Women and Girls in Science. We are wrapping up our week-long celebration by introducing some of the women participating in COST-funded networks. 80% of the health apps evaluated in a European study transmitted health-related data to third-party companies, with only half doing so over secure (HTTPS) connections. Most of the apps did not meet legal requirements or standards meant to prevent users’ inappropriate and uncontrolled data usage and disclosure to third-party companies.

COST Governance approves strategy for a stronger position of research networks in FP9

On 12 December 2017, COST’s governing board, the Committee of Senior Officials, chaired by COST President Sierd Cloetingh, in the presence of Director-General Robert-Jan Smits (DG Research and Innovation, European Commission) approved the strategy that will drive COST throughout the end of Horizon 2020 and the next Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP9).
